Bored of waking up every day to the same old boring bedroom but worried about how much it will cost to change? Want to decorate but don’t have the time?
Freshening up your surroundings needn’t cost a fortune or take up time you simply don’t have to spare. In fact, there are lots of things you can do to give your house a new look in a day or even less.
1. One Wall at a Time
Painting a whole room, never mind a whole house, can be a bit of a chore. One of the most time-consuming elements can be the preparation, such as moving furniture, removing ornaments, masking skirting boards and laying protective sheets over the floor.
However, painting a single wall (or a single feature such as a chimney breast) can make a huge difference to a room and can cut down on both preparation and the time spent actually painting. Alternatively, use stencils and spray paint to add a new look to any plain painted surface.
2. Change the Light
The type and quality of light in a house is often overlooked. You might not be able to add a new window or change the direction your house is facing but you can add or move lamps and try coloured bulbs or candles.
Mirrors, glass and crystal can also be used to achieve different lighting effects, giving rooms a completely new atmosphere.
3. Rearrange the Room
Simply rearranging the furniture in a room can have a dramatic effect. It not only gives the room a new look but can change your perspective when, for example, you sit on a sofa or lie down on a bed that’s in a new position.
If you have more than one furnished bedroom, try changing individual pieces from one room to another. This might not always work but you never know until you experiment with the décor’s and see what fits best where.
4. Use Fabrics
New curtains and bedding might not always come cheap but canny shoppers can usually find attractive fabrics at knock-down prices. Simple features such as throws, covers and hangings can change the entire look and feel of a room. If you can sew then there are even more possibilities.
As with any new features, it is worth checking your home insurance policy to ensure the contents are covered from any burglary or damage.
