Stainless steel is a good option when it comes to the kitchen sink because it looks good and it is also easy to clean.
Nonetheless when you go past the most obvious questions, such as the number of bowls and what kind of mount you want, there are some other factors that you might want to take into consideration.
If you would like the sink to be silent and strong, you should go for the low gauges, such as 16 or 18. Still there is no need to go all the way to 22.
In this case, the sink is more prone to denting and it is less likely that you will be able to use the garbage disposer because of it.
Also if you have a low gauge it is possible that the edges won’t be able to support the faucet.
2. Your back
If the sink isn’t deep enough, you will splash everything with water. If it is lower, it could hold a lot more, but it is more difficult to work with it because it has space for more items.
Also make sure that the sink comes with straight and soft edges so that it is easier to clean.
3. Thump test
It is important for the sink to have rubbery pads or undercoating. This way the sound of running water and silverware will deaden and there will be less condensation in the cabinet as well.
If the sink makes loud sounds, it means that it is too lightweight or it doesn’t have undercoating.
The ranking of the sink depends on the contents. It is best to get a 300 series or the one with 8% nickel and 18% chromium.
This way the sink won’t stain and it will be corrosion resistant. Opt for the satin finish because it will have a better patina over time than the matte finishes. The sink isn’t supposed to attract a magnet.
Some of the products come with drain baskets and assemblies while others don’t. The location of the drain should also be taken into consideration. If the drain is in the back, you will have more usable surface in the cabinet and you will have better drainage when you have a lot of dishes in the sink to wash.
The most important factors to think about when it comes to getting a sink are to get quality and value.
