However how often do we think to stop and make sure our lovely decorated home is a safe place for us and our loved ones as well?

Do you have a swimming pool? If so is there a privacy pool fence around it? Some states regulate homeowners’ associations and mandate there are privacy fences around any swimming pools, however some states or cities do not mandate this.

Secure your swimming pool so that neighborhood children are not able to slip into it as well as neighborhood pets.

Do you have a trampoline? Do you have a swing set? Do you have a garden? These are hidden safety issues just waiting to arise. Make sure your trampoline is secured and neighborhood children cannot get to it. Also consider putting a net around your trampoline.

If you have a swing set it is extremely important to make sure it is in top-notch condition at all times. If there are cracks in the foundation of the swing set or if it is getting too old consider taking it down for safety purposes.

In regards to your garden, gardening tools, chemicals and pesticides can be dangerous for children and pets. Even if you do not have children or pets there may be some from your neighborhood that wander into your yard so make sure your yard is safe.

The kitchen and bathroom are also troublesome areas where safety meets aesthetics. Make sure there are no medications or chemicals exposed or easily accessible in either room.

Candles are very popular in these rooms so make sure when you have a lit candle it is not easily accessible to children, pets or any foreign objects that could affect the lit candle. Do not store anything in your oven as it is very common to turn on your oven and forget you have items in there.

Electrical issues are the number one cause of fires in homes. Once a year try to bring in an inspector or electrician come in and inspect your electrical wiring throughout your house.

If you notice, none of the ideas we have given you will affect the aesthetics of your home decor so you are now on your way to a safer, more secure home!
