Working from home is becoming increasingly more standard these days with the recent layoffs and the state of the economy.
Working from home as a collector, a graphic designer and freelance writer are some of the up and coming professions you can do from home.
Many of these people are finding it very difficult to work from home and stay motivated. There are the dogs that want attention, there is laundry to be done, and you want to make a homemade pie for desert tonight.
But seriously you have to make working from home as professional and as much of a priority as you would if you were still going to the firm every day from 7:30 to 5:30. How exactly do you do that? How do you make your home office functional? How do you create the perfect at home office space?
The room that you designate as your home office design needs to be just that; a home office otherwise you will find yourself going in there at midnight on a Sunday when you really don’t need to.
Even though you’re working from home now you still need to draw that line between work and home. Drawing this line is much more difficult when you work from an in home office space.
Don’t put anything in the office that you would need if you aren’t working. For example, don’t put the Xbox 360 in the office if you’re going to need to access it over the weekend. If you do, you will be blurring the line between work and home.
Put your desk against a window if possible. If not, put it against a wall that your back is to the door of the room. This is how things are in the real world this is how your home office should be.
Have a lamp, picture frame and flowers on your desk and nothing else. Do not have your checkbook on your desk; do not have your grocery list on your desk. These are tasks you can tend to during the breaks that you have to allow yourself throughout the day. [office decorating ideas]
Just make sure you do your best to keep your home office separate from the rest of your home and make it as professional as it can be. Do not allow anything in your home office that may distract you either.
