In case your home has a mantelpiece, it’s almost a must to use it to help you bring the Christmas spirit into your home. Although you shouldn’t overdo it, there are a lot of ideas for you to use to make the best of the Christmas decorations that you already have.
If you happen to have bold colors in your living room, you should be bold with the decorations that you use too. Make sure that the fireplace will become the focal point of the room by hanging berry wreaths above it. Then line up mini glass candle holders and add white taper candles to them.
Sparkle and Glitter
In order to add a warm feeling to the living room, you should use many candles. Do so by lining up metallic vases on the mantelpiece and sparkly mercury glass candleholders along with votives. As a finishing touch, place two rose stems in one of the vases.
There are a lot of people who like vintage items. In case you have some objects that you would like to show off, gather them in glass jars placed on the mantelpiece. Choose jars of different sizes; fill the largest ones with larger baubles and the smaller ones with mini baubles.
Add a Statement Wreath
The people who have a picture or painting hanging above the mantelpiece should replace it with a festive wreath. Then add candlesticks symmetrically to both sides of the mantelpiece and group together other Christmassy elements. It is best to make sure that they all belong to the same color scheme.
Choose the Natural Way
You can achieve a natural feel by using berries, winter roses, foliage and fir. You can choose natural pieces or faux ones. Regardless of your decision, it is best to decorate the mantelpiece with a long garland and add the decorations to sparkly glassware. In the end fill the gaps with berry sprigs.
Decorating the Mirror
Some people have a mirror hanging above the mantelpiece. If this is the case you should make a wreath of paper pompoms, rosettes, and doilies and add it to the mirror. Then line the mantelpiece with a garland made of eucalyptus decorated with a red ribbon.
Dress the Mantelpiece
Create groups of three or five objects to dress up your mantelpiece. Choose your favorite items and place them to one end of the mantelpiece. This way you can create visual impact, but you can be sure that things won’t be too much. For a festive touch, throw in some fairy lights as well.
Add the Text
For a country living room there are some special ideas you could use. As an example you may buy letters and spell out a festive message, such as “Noel”, “Merry Christmas”, or “Let it snow”. Hang stockings on the mantelpiece and add a wreath above it.
Since there are so many ideas, you will have to do your best to choose the one most suitable for your home and your lifestyle.
